Hello all and welcome the Hockeybuzz weekly point-counterpoint debate

Back in May, Travis Yost and I conceived this idea to keep readers interested and to really explore new ideas and new viewpoints on the NHL’s most controversial topics.

The first debate is the debate of all debates: why doesn’t the NHL add a seventh team in Canada. This week Travis will take the Pro portion, debating w…

Welcome back to the weekly Colorado Avalanche poll. Last week, Matt Duchene won the “Which player are you most excited to see” poll in a landslide victory. This week, the weekly poll asks who are you most nervous about for next season?

There are always players that breakout in each season and there are a number of players who regress from their previous season.

Here are the choices:

Craig…

Welcome to the newest feature of Hockeybuzz.com and that’s the Colorado Avalanche weekly poll.

Every Wednesday I will post a new poll on a blog asking an Avalanche-based poll question where you all can answer, discuss and, best of all debate. Originally, I was going to start this next week but one of the posters put one up in the forums and I thought it would be a great way to get things starte…

Aaron Musick: Rejected

20, Jul 2010

Well the Kovalchuk watch is back on of sorts.

Just mere hours after my last post wondering if the deal was illegal the NHL rejected the contract, saying it circumvented the cap.

Now we get to wonder how the contract will change if Kovalchuk will still be a Devil, what he will make and all the other questions we were asking before. Are the Kings back in? How about Russia?

This is big for t…

So the saga has ended and Kovalchuk is back in New Jersey but should his shiny new contract be considered legal?

If you have not seen the contract yet here are the numbers:

Welcome to my new feature on Hockeybuzz: Fake news fridays. You’ve all read or at least, I assume, heard of the ONION? Well this is if the ONION were to only do hockey stories. None of these stories are true but all are meant to be light funny and a nice way to get through the long offseason. Some stories will happen in the future, some in the past but most in the present.

For the future storie…

The Avalanche announced today that they have traded T.J. Hensick to the St. Louis Blues for Julian Talbot.

Hensick, who was a Hobey Baker finalist, never established his game in the NHL. His small frame allowed him to be pushed around and his defensive etiquette was sorely lacking. Despite his efforts, Hensick was never able to stick with the Avs and found himself entrenched in a minor league r…

At the conclusion of Game 6, while the Chicago Blackhawks were celebrating the cup, Jeremy Roenick breaks down explaining how it feels to not experience that.

There have been good moments in sports TV but nothing as raw and emotional as what Jeremy Roenick did and said on live TV.

If only Mike Milbury didn’t try to insert himself this could have turned into one of the best moments in al…

We are just over three weeks away from the bidding war for the services of Ilya Kovalchuk.

Lots of fans of lots of teams would love to see hm on their team but who should really go after him?

The Kovalchuk price tag will likely start as high as $7 million and could climb even higher as the morning of July 1 goes on. So what’s the cost?

When a team bids on Kovalchuk, they know they are…

Well After a three day weekend in hot and so-not-hockeylike Texas, the Avalangelist is back on station ready to talk about all the happenings of the weekend.

The Avalanche, must to most people’s chagrin, resigned Peter Budaj and, much to everyone’s shock, David Koci.

After thinking on this thing a week, I finally have a centered opinion.

On one side, Budaj gives the Avs a stable backup an…

For the Avs Chris Durno was the perfect fourth liner. he was out for 10-12 minutes a night at most, played physical and used his big frame to his advantage.

Though he was never a threat to sc…

The Hockeybuzz Avalanche player review continues with the second most useless player, #28 David Koci.

Season stats: 43 games played, one goal, no assists, one point
Did not play in postseason

When the Avs signed Koci they thought he might bring some toughness to the young Avs. However, he didn’t skate well, didn’t hit well and didn’t fight well.

Salei used to be that tough g…
