Welcome back to the weekly Colorado Avalanche poll. Last week, Matt Duchene won the “Which player are you most excited to see” poll in a landslide victory. This week, the weekly poll asks who are you most nervous about for next season?

There are always players that breakout in each season and there are a number of players who regress from their previous season.

Here are the choices:

Welcome to the first annual Avalanche award blog. Since the NHL handed out their awards last night, it is time to hand out mine to the Avalanche players who earned them. All the awards are still the same awards, just renamed after Avalanche players.

Next year, I’ll let you the fans decide in a poll. However, this year I’ll have to decide, feel free to disagree in the comments section.

On memorial day, we take a minute to remember the year that Cody McLeod.

The Avalanche player review is back with a look at newly-signed Adam Foote

season stats: 67 games played, no goals, nine assists
Postseason stats: Six games played, one assist
Nicknames: Footer
Contract status: Resigned $1 million for next year

Adam Foote didn’t have as good a season as his prime days but then again, he didn’t have as bad a season as the one last year.

His 67 games pla…

The Denver Post is reporting that the Colorado Avalanche have re-signed captain Adam Foote to a one-year contract. The contract will pay Foote a base salary of $1 million, significantly less than the $3 million he averaged over the past two seasons.

Foote, 38, had a bounce-back 2009-2010 campaign, increasing his games played (from 42 to 67) and his plus minus rating (from minus-12 to plus-eight) from 2008 to 2009. His experience allowed him to mentor rookie defensemen Ryan Wilson and Kyle Cumiskey, and his leadership was key in the Avalanche returning to the playoffs one season after finishing last in the Western Conference.

Given that Foote will make a mere $1 million, it’s expected that he’ll take on a lesser role on the ice while once again mentoring any rookie defensemen that join the Avalanche in the 2010-2011 season.

The Avalanche still have three defensemen who played for them last season who are un-signed: Brett Clark, Ruslan Salei, and Kyle Quincey. Of the three, it’s expected that only Quincey, a restricted free agent, will be re-signed.

The Avalanche are also expected to announce the signing of defensive prospect Jonas Holos, who is rumored to have signed a two-year contract.

According the Avalanche, Adam Foote has signed another deal to come back for the 2010-11 season.

Foote was useful for most of this year, providing grit and leadership to a really young club as well as hosting Matt Duchene in his house.

While, yes Foote has slowed down and can’t get up and down the sheet the same way, he’s got good enough positioning to offset it this is unless he’s paire…

Postseason Stats: Six GP, no goals, no assists

After a one-day hiatus, the Avalanche player review is back, this time focusing on number 10 Kyle Cumiskey.

Season stats: 61 games played, seven goals, 13 assists, 20 points.
Playoff stats: 6 GP, one goal, one assist, two points.
Nicknames: Cummer, Wheelman

Cumiskey can be one of the fastest, most talented players on the Avs but then again, he can revert to a form that is timid and uncert…

Well what was a first good season of a rebuild came to halt earlier this week and now it’s time to review how the team did.

Welcome to part two of three of the Colorado Avalanche 2009-10 season review, today’s focusing on the defense.

While the best part of the Avs season was, in order, Craig Anderson and the young forwards.

However, if there was a frustrating part to the season, it was t…

It came about two weeks too late for the Lake Erie Monsters but the Avs announced the signings of Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen.

Both have signed entry level deals and will report to the Monsters.

Shattenkirk is in the mold of a Brian Rafalski. He uses his stick to get the puck out of the corners and off the sticks of players. He is an excellent passer with an above-average shot and good…
