Niklas Hjalmarsson has received a 4-year $14 million offer sheet from the San Jose Sharks (as rumored here a couple of weeks ago).
This offer sheet brings a number of things into question.
First, and most obvious, will the Hawks, who have 7 days from today to match the offer, chump up and retain the young, emerging star who many (myself included) feel might need to be a higher priority than…
Unfortunately, due to some family obligations (basically having to watch my kids this weekend, including my 4 year-old Myles, who has finally removed his red Byfuglien 33 sweater due to either the tradeâ or rot), I can’t make it to Prospects Camp this year.
But, there, among the massed throngs (and I do suspect attendance at PC this year will be bigger than ever) will be the Prospect Eyes And…
As I reported last night on twitter Andrew Ladd could very well be the next Blackhawk on the move as I’m told as many as a dozen teams have expressed some level of interest.

The Blues and D-man Carlo Colaiacovo will be parting ways at least for now anyway.
Some proposals have been exchanged but as w…
Well, the timing is likely not coincidental.
Kris Versteeg was shipped to Toronto tonight for NHL forward Viktor Stalberg and AHL forwards Phillippe Paradis (a former #1 pick of the Hurricanes) and Chris DeDomenico.
The significance? $3 million more cap room with which to possibly lock up their RFAs, possibly before noon tomorrow in one or more cases.
I doubt anyone who follows the Hawks…
(And What Not To)
Okay, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the Hawks will not be making one of the huge July 1 splashes they’ve become known for in recent years.
One gets the sense however, throughout Blackhawk Nation, there’s a deafening silence of waiting for the other shoe to be dropped.
Very few of those who follow the Hawks are buying the official team line that the salary…

Some proposals have been exchanged but as we sit right now no agreement has been reached. There is still a chance the two sides talk beyond July first if he doesnât find a fit elsewhere. Colaiacovo will likely take any…
Courtesy of our resident draft expert in Hawk Nation, Bill Placzek (aka Wiz), here is a mock draft with player scouting capsules for your enjoyment.
Wiz will likely be on the board today and this weekend to answer your questions (when not enjoying draft coverage form the comfort of his hot tub.)
I will post rounds 2-7 (yes, he did all 7 rounds!) tomorrow!
I am personally not as in touch…
NHLHS Chicago Blackhawks Correspondent Ryan Hackett and his thoughts on the blockbuster deal made between the Hawks and the Atlanta Thrashers.
Now Playing: Pearl Jam – Live at the Gorge
OK, so according to league sources, this trade has been made official.
In the interest of getting the logistics out of the way, here’s how it breaks [...]
So the dominoes start to fall, and a certain 4 year-old in my household is going to wake up to some bad news tomorrow. His hero, and the name on the Blackhawk sweater he’s worn for the last, oh, 60 days or so running, has been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers.
It’s a bittersweet moment for Hawk fans. Dustin Byfuglien was arguably not as popular in Chicago as say Kris Versteeg is, and definitely…

Montreal deserves some kudos for really getting the ball moving on whatâs expected to be an entertaining week.
Teams operating on a budget are wondering why certain organizations feel it necessary to pay 25 goal scorers $5 million a year for six years! I mean, donât get me wron…
The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup on June 9, 2010. They had not won the Cup since 1961. It ended a 49-year drought.
Do you agree with me so far? Itâs important. Youâll see why.
There seems to be some debate as to what NHL team now holds the dubious exclusive distinction of being the franchise that has gone longest without winning a Cup. âThatâs easy,â you say. After the B…
Quick afternoon update and perspective:
Hawk GM Stan Bowman told Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune this AM he’s been in talks with every NHL GM over the last few days and the potential deals are a “work in progress.”
OK, so that’s not a lot of information. Here’s more.
Dustin Byfuglien is rumored to have been at the center of a deal that fell through late last week with the Anaheim Ducks….
Heard from a source yesterday that the San Jose Sharks are preparing big money offer sheets for both Antti Niemi and Niklas Hjalmarsson in order to fill the voids left by the retirement of Rob Blake and the anticipated departure of Evgeni Nabokovâ and to ding a conference rival.
That said, before anyone rushes off and orders their teal Hjalmarsson “4″ sweater, I’m going to paraphrase Mark Twa…
Maybe the Blackhawks are just sleeping off a long hangover from the week long Stanley Cup party that took place. Or the notoriously tight-lipped organization is busy, but, as usual, not letting any details slip.
Either way, not much to report right now on the salary cap, impending trades or the draft intentions of the Cup champs.
There was a rumored deal with Anaheim that supposedly fell thr…
Call him what you want: Lazy, underachieving, disinterested, overrated, future star, etc. Nathan Horton’s time as a Panther is apparently coming to an end. Both Buffalo and Boston have been rumored to be destinations for the talented, yet streaky winger/center. Tim Connolly or Derek Roy would be coming back to the Panthers in all likelihood (probably Connolly, because of better size) from Buffa…

Phoenix Coyotes general manager Don Maloney announced Thursday that the Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Adrian Aucoin to a two-year, $4 million deal.
Aucoin will make $1.8 million next season, and $2.2 million in 2011-12. This according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

After much careful thought and several discussions with people whom I trust wholeheartedly, I have decided to resign my position here at HockeyBuzz to pursue other opportunities.
This may not catch very many of you by surprise, as the mulling of this decision in my head for quite some time has probably been noticeable to even the casual observer with hints here and there in recent months.
It…
On the heels of my breakdown of what the Hawks need to do this offseason, and how I think they might do it, I’ve received a lot of interesting feedback and scenarios.
In truth, there are any number of ways Stan Bowman can get the Blackhawks under the cap for 2010-11. The challenge lies in making the right subtractions and additions to optimally position the team for success during the season, a…
