On Tuesday night in Toronto, the Maple Leafs erased three one-goal leads held by the opposing Bruins. When the Leafs finally jumped ahead on the scoreboard for the first time, their lead was safer than any the B’s had held throughout the entirety of the affair. Why, you ask? Well, Nikolai Kulemin’s go-ahead goal came with 50 seconds left in the overtime period. They don’t call it sudden death for…

Phil Kessel can go ahead and thank his lucky stars, as Bruins’ captain Zdeno Chara will miss his first game of this season tonight. The B’s blueliner is suffering from a lower-body injury, keeping him from suiting up against the Maple Leafs.

Chara, who currently has five goals, 30 assists and a +6 rating on the year, proved be the other “shoe to drop” after the Bruins announced the emergency r…

The hot topic right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Steven Stamkos, thanks to the hot hand that has him on pace for a 51-goal sophomore season.

The impact of Steve Downie as a well-rounded force, offensively, physically and otherwise, might be the surprise story of their season.

And a reinvigorated Vincent Lecavalier down the stretch, sparked by the under-the-radar arrival of Teddy…

Hello fellow HockeyBuzz.com-ers!

Well, as you can probably tell I am the new kid on the block and have just today become an official contributor to HockeyBuzz.com, thanks to the support of EK and CaptEO.

I have to say that being an avid HB.com reader for the last few years, I am thrilled and excited about being on board a site that I consider to be part of my daily hockey reading.

See…

The Canadiens are making a push for the playoffs at the right time and have moved from 10th to 7th in the eastern conference in just two short days. Clearly, this means that Montreal can drop just as quickly. The scary thing for the Canadiens right now is that the teams immediately following them in the standings all have at least a game in hand (most have three), since the Habs have played more…

There are times, especially in the great sport of hockey, when vengeance must be pushed to the back burner. For the Boston Bruins, Sunday’s tilt in Pittsburgh against the Penguins was not, in this writer’s humble opinion, one of those occasions. After a vicious elbow from Matt Cooke left Marc Savard, their star center, unconscious, the B’s proceeded to….

A) Rearrange Cooke’s kisser?
B) Pumme…

So, the Jeff Vinik era as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to an 0-1 start with Thursday’s loss to Washington.

So what?

The Caps are, well, the Caps. And, though there was certainly some sloppiness, the Lightning hung tight in that game, battling back from several deficits and showing some real character throughout.

A timely save or two down the stretch would have aided the cau…

18 teams were in action on Thursday night in the National Hockey League. Home teams finished with a sparkling 7-1-1 record, with the Stars suffering the only loss in regulation among the nine hosts.

We can even talk about last night’s 7-2 thumping the Lightning received from Philly, if we must. (Hey, at least we got another double dose of “Hammer Time”!

Caveat Emptor: part or nothing of what you read here will come to pass by 3PM Eastern today.

That is to say, as I’ve said in the past, hockey trade rumor reporting is at best an inexact science. You can identify in very broad terms what a team is trying to do, but the specifics are almost always surprising.

That said, in spite of a tweet by Kevin Allen of USA Today to the contrary last night…

If only the National Hockey had 40 minute contests. That’s right. Shave off an entire period of play. The Boston Bruins, in this fresh new format, would be world-beaters. Unfortunately, no such drastic overhaul will ever take place, and the B’s will repeatedly come out on the losing end as they did in their 4-1 setback to the Habs on Tuesday.

It’s frustrating and downright puzzling. In their fi…

Join me at your leisure on deadline day here.

I’ll be in and out throughout the day, passing along whatever word I get on any potential or actual Lightning moves and my usual snide commentary on whatever else is going on tomorrow.

We’ll have plenty to discuss, I’m sure.

Stay tuned.

It’s been quite a while since we all saw the spoked-B, the Black and Gold, the beloved Bruins. With my head entirely wrapped around the Slovakian Olympic team these past few weeks, as my assignment was to cover the squad for Versus during the Winter Games, writing about the B’s almost feels completely foreign at this moment. Sure, I’ve poked my head out here and there to share the occasional thoug…

Before I open up the mailbag for the first time in a long time, I’ll answer a question that I’ve received from a handful of people in the last couple of days:

“Where did BoltsBuzz Radio go so quickly?”

The answer is simple. Nowhere. We scheduled to take Monday the 22nd off, figuring most listeners would be in Olympic mode, most potential guests scattered about and hard to reach and,…

The Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament began as one of the most highly-hyped hockey affairs in the sport’s long, rich history. There were disappointments (Russia, Sweden) and surprises (United States, Slovakia), stellar goaltending (Ryan Miller, Roberto Luongo) and magnificent offensive performances (Pavol Demitra, Zach Parise). But, above all else, there was a storybook ending that every hockey fan will…

For the Slovakian Olympic team, Wednesday’s win over Sweden, which pushed the squad into the semifinals for the first time in the nation’s history, was a moment they will savor for the rest of their lives. But, while they have put together one of the most compelling stories to come out of Vancouver in these past few weeks, there is still another chapter or two to be written.

The upstart Slovaks…

There’s really only one certainty we can take out of the coaching changes made yesterday by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

OK Hockey – dubbed a circus by so many – may be out as an ownership group but, clearly, the show must go on.

What about replacing assistant coach Wes Walz with Norfolk head coach Jim Johnson makes sense at this point in the season, at any level?

With 21 games left fo…
