For the 3rd game in 4 the Canucks have come back from a deficit to win a game, the hero in two of those games being Jannik Hansen. Surely it’s not a simple solution as the coach switching the proverbial switch far earlier in the game or perhaps before puck drop? Whatever the solution is to this very dangerous way of playing games in a stretch drive, most Canucks fans will agree that it needs to…
Who is Your Cup Favorite?
With approximately 15 games remaining in the NHL’s regular season, there doesn’t seem to be a better time than right now to find out who YOU think has the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup?
Here is a set of 3 polls, based on the 3 brackets of current contenders(based on current point standings and pre-season odds):

The hot topic right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Steven Stamkos, thanks to the hot hand that has him on pace for a 51-goal sophomore season.
The impact of Steve Downie as a well-rounded force, offensively, physically and otherwise, might be the surprise story of their season.
And a reinvigorated Vincent Lecavalier down the stretch, sparked by the under-the-radar arrival of Teddy…
If you didn’t get a chance to read the stretch drive preview and would like a chance to look at some numbers and how they relate to the Canucks and the post season you can read it here:

Tonight the Canucks take on the Avalanche in the second to last game of the season between the two. The teams are currently on…
With two games left in the ‘longest road trip in NHL history’ these final two could be the most important of the 14 for Vancouver. Just when we all thought the team could breathe easy with a guaranteed .500 record on this road trip it appears that there is a whole lot more work to do for the club.
This is the schedule to come:
Tue, 9 Mar 2010 Canucks @ Avalanche
Wed, 10 Mar 2010 C…
Things were great in Nashville at the end of the 2nd period. However, by that sentence alone you know what is going to come next. Poor goaltending and the Nashville team sitting back in the 3rd allowed the Vancouver Canucks to come back in the game from a 2-1 deficit to steal some points and the win 4-2 in Nashville. 16,096 were on hand at the Bridgestone Arena for a rare Sunday afternoon game, bu…
Well I totally missed the game today. First because I was preoccupied with my kid’s activities and this whole Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg mess. Second because for some reason I thought the game was an evening game and that is what I had written down. Ooops
If anyone wants to do a write up I will post it here for all to read.
I need to clarify a few things about the Phoenix Coyotes mov…
Apologies about my lack of posting… I’ve been tied up announcing the OVC Tournament at the Bridge and had precious little time to blog. I didn’t see the Wings game and from all accounts, I didn’t miss much.

So, the Jeff Vinik era as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to an 0-1 start with Thursdayâs loss to Washington.
So what?
The Caps are, well, the Caps. And, though there was certainly some sloppiness, the Lightning hung tight in that game, battling back from several deficits and showing some real character throughout.
A timely save or two down the stretch would have aided the cau…
I debated how to title this blog: “A Minor Statement,” or “An Early Statement,” and upon reflection, I went with the more simple, emphatic title you see above.
Last night’s game was a statement for the Blackhawks. Not so much because of the score, or even really the opponent, but rather: this is how we’re going to win in the playoffs.
Conversely, if I were a Canucks fan, I’d be concerned thi…
The Canucks ride into Chicago feeling pretty good for tonight’s tilt. They have a come from behind OT win in Columbus and a 6-3 dismantling of the Wings in Joe Louis, now they face the class of the West in Chicago. It’s a team which the Canucks hold a 2-1 season edge and one in which they particularly want to exercise some demons against.
Roberto Luongo will have be facing his old team mate…
18 teams were in action on Thursday night in the National Hockey League. Home teams finished with a sparkling 7-1-1 record, with the Stars suffering the only loss in regulation among the nine hosts.

Dan Murphy is leading ’serenity now chants’ at the local war room at the Joe Louis Arena.
Canucks are in deep on Seidenberg
Darryl Sutter is apparently doing a sign and trade with Stajan, he figures there are more mediocre forwards out there that he can over pay.
Shirokov helped his case last night with a goal and assist and I expect him to be in on any package.

We can even talk about last night’s 7-2 thumping the Lightning received from Philly, if we must. (Hey, at least we got another double dose of “Hammer Time”!

If only the National Hockey had 40 minute contests. That’s right. Shave off an entire period of play. The Boston Bruins, in this fresh new format, would be world-beaters. Unfortunately, no such drastic overhaul will ever take place, and the B’s will repeatedly come out on the losing end as they did in their 4-1 setback to the Habs on Tuesday.
It’s frustrating and downright puzzling. In their fi…
Blue Jackets blew another game when they had the lead going into the 3rd period. Grant Clitsome had 2 assists for the Blue Jackets in his NHL debut but the other assist he gave to the Canucks that allowed them to tie up the game will be hard to forget.
All in all, both teams played like garbage and it was very sloppy. It’s what you expect after a 2 week break and several players wondering…
I received a call back from my source, connection, phantom friend, or whatever it is I have with the Moose. There are two players who have been told they are a good chance to go tomorrow. I believe it’s Florida but contingent on Vokoun moving. Guess that means one is Schneider right?
If Vokoun is moved and Florida is clearing house, changing the guard, rebuilding or doing whatever it is the…
Join me at your leisure on deadline day here.
I’ll be in and out throughout the day, passing along whatever word I get on any potential or actual Lightning moves and my usual snide commentary on whatever else is going on tomorrow.
We’ll have plenty to discuss, I’m sure.
Stay tuned.

Gillis is trying to swing something. Even Botchford is tweeting that Schneider is available. It’s not that it’s Schneider but what does he expect to get for him with so few games of NHL experience?
If we expect anything of substance then CS is going to have to be part of a bigger deal with a team who really wants a top flight goalie.
