More than 48 hours have now passed since the indescribably shocking conclusion of the Eastern Conference Semifinals series loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. I had promised a quick return the following afternoon but just couldn’t muster the energy to reflect upon the disaster quite yet. But, here I am, ready to propose to you a rather simple question, but one you may find difficult to answer:
Who…
I know that you folks want some Rangers-related news but this is the best I could do. It involves Sean Avery and Aaron Voros. More from The New York Post:
Lindsay Lohan started another fight in a club—this time with New York Ranger skaters Aaron Voros and Sean Avery at 1Oak. The troubled starlet threw a drink over Voros’ model girlfriend, Jessica Stam, and then tried to get all three thrown out of the Wildfox fall-collection party the other night. A spy relates, “Lindsay threw a fit because she wanted to be at their table near the DJ. But she claimed she didn’t want to sit with Aaron and said, ‘He’s my ex-boyfriend. I don’t want him anywhere near me.’ Voros denied knowing her. A drink then flew in Jessica’s face, and Lindsay demanded their table be moved out. Club bosses refused and tried to calm her down. Stam, Voros and Avery were shocked but didn’t retaliate, and Lindsay left shortly afterward.”
Nice, right?
The Hawks went into a highly charged HP Pavilion this afternoon and took care of business, emerging with a huge 2-1 win.
Going down a goal in the first period and having to kill five penalties, the Hawks gave up a large shot margin to the Sharks early on. But as the game wore on, especially after Patrick Sharp’s second period tally to tie the game at 1-1, the Hawks slowly took control of the te…
Suffice it to say, the rest did me well.
I stayed away exactly a month, which was the minimum Iâd promised myself. The itch was there to return early on a few different occasions but I resisted â made myself hold back â and I feel recharged and ready to tackle another active off-season for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
But first, some shameless self-promotion â¦
Over the course of the…
This week, I had the privilege and honor of interviewing one of the best hockey writers out there – Pierre Lebrun of ESPN.com.
Pierre was kind enough to take time out of his extremely hectic hockey coverage schedule to tell us about how he got into loving the game, how he got into covering the game for a living, and of course, his thoughts on the Stanley Cup playoff action.
Enjoy!
PH: How did you get into hockey?
PL: Well, played hockey all my life (what else are you going do in Northern Ontario, right?) Played 24/7, eight days a week as they say, on the ice, on the road, in the basement, you name it. Was an average player but was lucky to be part of 1990 All-Ontario Midget B champion Hearst Lumberkins.
After a 5-4 OT victory on Saturday afternoon, the Bruins will return to the TD Garden to square off with the Flyers in game two of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series on Monday night.
Here are my five keys to victory for the Black and Gold:
1. DON’T SIT ON A LEAD
On three different occasions, the B’s held a two-goal advantage over Philadelphia in game one, including with under eig…
Kevin Dineen has been tagged by the press as the leading candidate for the Blue Jackets coaching vacancy almost from the very instant that Ken Hitchcock was fired. Notice I said the press tagged him the favorite not CBJ management. You have never seen a quote or statement that GM Scott Howson has Dineen’s name at the top of his list.
The reason is simple if you know Howson at all and how he…
It was May 11, 1978. Jimmy Carter was in his 15th month as President of the United States. Jaws II was a month away from its highly anticipated release. The world had yet to learn how to do the YMCA. And on that night at the Boston Garden, the hometown Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. The two teams, who squared off against one another for the right…
Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Admit it, Bruins fans. That chant was rhythmically echoing in your head as you watched the Montreal Canadiens pull off one of the most incredible upsets over the Washington Capitals. Thanks to the B’s bitter rivals’ victory in game seven, Boston will now have home ice advantage in round two against the seventh seeded Philadelphia Flyers.
What a crazy round of playoff hoc…
Unless youâve got a serious craving for some top notch wings, itâs time to get on the horn and cancel that day trip to Buffalo. You can officially file Wednesdayâs game seven under âno longer necessaryâ, as the Boston Bruins have eliminated the Sabres four games to two after a riveting 4-3 win at the TD Garden in game six on Monday night.
The series is over. The Sabresâ season is ov…
From great friend of the blog Nicholas Montemagno at The Rangers Tribune:
In 27 games played with the Devils this season, Kovalchuk had just ten goals, in addition to the two he netted in five games played against the Flyers in the quarterfinals. Those are not horrible numbers, obviously, but they are not what we have seen in previous years of his career and they are the only reason why he does not have an atrocious plus/minus rating. His performance in the playoffs this season was below-par, and I think that was the assuring fact that he will not be back with the Devils next season.
This may sound harsh, but Kovalchuk does not give a rat’s tail about the defensive end of the rink. He does not make an effort to backcheck, he does not make an effort to help around by the net, and he is not an option to put on the penalty kill. His only ability is scoring, which he can do quite well, but only when he chooses that he wants to.
People have recently been asking why Kovalchuk did not fit in New Jersey. Well, the Devils, sine their birth, have always been a defense-first team. Kovalchuk does not know how to play a system like that, in fact, he doesn’t know how to play much of any system at all. He is a floater that waits for the puck, and when he gets it, he chooses if he wants to do something with it or not.

Who Am I? #4
Here we go with another kick at the âWho Am I?â can! I have to say that Hockeybuzz has some pretty knowledgeable hockey fans as evidenced by how many people are able to figure these out pretty quickly! Rather than scale back to 5 clues Iâm going to go the route of making the clues trickier to figure out and welcome you posting not only your guess as to the person Iâm refe…

The 2010 NFL Draft has come on gone with 7 rounds of hope and promise for both the teams selecting and the players selected. None of that will be different for the NHL Draft that will happen June 25th in Los Angeles.
The question is how can people tell what player their favorite NHL team will select by what NFL teams selected. Did you hear what coaches and general managers of NFL teams sai…
A little more than a month ago, specifically on the evening of March 18th, majority of Bruins’ fans had seen enough. After watching the B’s nearly sleepwalk through the most highly-hyped game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the vitriol Boston fans possessed for Matt Cooke was soon directly aimed at their own hockey team. Effortless. Heartless. Hopeless. The Black and Gold were toast…
Today will be the nomination announcements for the 2010 Calder Trophy. If the early playoff results are any indication, perhaps the best player to debut in the 2009/10 season will not be nominated this year. So far in the playoffs, John Carlson of the Washington Capitals has made a claim to being the best rookie in the NHL. Carlson has appeared in all four Washington Capitals games and scored four points from defence. He has a +7 +/- rating in the playoffs so far. This is quite an impressive showing for a rookie.
Carlson will be eligible for the Calder Trophy next season because he only played 22 games this season (and the Calder cut-off is 25). In those 22 games, he logged an ever increasing amount of playing time with six points and a +11 +/-. Carlson is a 20 year old World Junior Championship hero who was a Caps first round pick in 2008. He has the pedigree of a future NHL star and is playing like one so far in the playoffs. He is a very logical front-runner for next year’s Calder Trophy.
After forty minutes of play in game four against the Buffalo Sabres, trailing 2-0 and in danger of missing an opportunity to take a 3-1 series lead, a comeback just didnât seem to be in the cards. Not on this night, with the Bruins intensity and sharpness down a few notches and Ryan Miller gobbling up every golden opportunity the Bâs mustered. After sending Buffalo to their first loss this sea…
The TD Garden has not been very kind to the Boston Bruins throughout majority of the calendar year. After a monumental win at Fenway Park over the Philadelphia Flyers in the Winter Classic, the Bâs went on to drop their next ten games on home ice. It took until March 4th, a Thursday evening tilt with the Maple Leafs that went to a shootout, for the Bruins to finally pick up two points.
The B…
Surely it isnât rocket science, but the second game in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals series against the Buffalo Sabres is an absolute must-win for the Boston Bruins. The prospect of heading back to Boston in an 0-2 rut is a scary one, even based on the teamâs lengthy playoff history alone.
While the following numbers are tied to generations of the past, thereâs certainly enough of…
By the time this blog is completed, we’ll be just about an hour away from game one in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals series between the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres. Here are some quick hits:
According to the Boston Globe….
* Andrew Ference has been cleared to play this evening. The veteran defenseman, oft-ailed by a groin injury, is expected to be paired with rookie Adam McQuaid…
