This will now have to go to an arbitrator. The NHLPA took a very long time in deciding whether or not they would file, and only had until 5 pm ET today to file. The NHL is probably a bit surprised they actually did. What happens now? It will be a few more delays on the Kovalchuk situation.

Or will the NHL want this to go away?

Sure the Kings would love to lock up three of their core to long term deals.

But they don’t have to.

The players don’t have arbitration rights so anything the Kings do offer them, is at their discretion. It doesn’t mean the player won’t hold out, or take that into consideration during a long contract negotiation, but the Kings are in no hurry.

One could certainly argue that it wo…

Kovalchuk-Gate
So, Lou Lamoriello is fallible after all!

In what is quickly becoming the Matt Sundin story of this off season, super sniper Ilya Kovalchuk still remains unsigned.

Well, that is not exactly the case since he did have a deal with the Devils which was quickly rejected by the NHL.

This has been discussed ad infinitum but in case you’ve been hiding under a rock, Lou Lamariello…

Matthew Barry: WTF?

21, Jul 2010

Ask yourself? Why did this happen and who benefits?

Jay Grossman turns down 100 million from Atlanta. Why? That’s a lot of commission to turn down. It isn’t because Kovalchuk doesn’t want to play there.

Kovalchuk is simply a pawn.

Jay Grossman has HIS agenda. Its happened many a time to a client (and in my industry, movie stars). WHO BENEFITS AND WHY?

Kovalchuk WANTS to come to L.A. -…

For those who want a great take – albeot maybe a bit biased as a Kings’ fan – read Matthew Barry’s blog today: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Matthew-Barry/Let-Me-Sleep-On-It-Baby-Baby-Let-Me-Sleep-On-It/125/29426

One nugget for Rangers fans at the end is he indicates that the Blueshirts could be talking deal with LA with Gaborik or Drury mentioned. Nearly all Rangers fans would love to find a…

Folks get it through your head. Once in there remember and repeat, ‘ The BOG was never going to allow preventative or punitive action to limit the spending of money’.

Accept it and move on.

There is nothing wrong with the Kovalchuk deal or any other which takes a player to 40 years plus i…

All I can say is… WOW! Only time will tell how this contract plays out, what kind of dividends the team reaps in search for a fourth Stanley Cup title, how many years of the contract are actually played, the impact of this contract running into a new CBA, etc…

Here is the breakdown as per Andy Strickland:
Ilya Kovalchuk

10-11 6.00 NHL
11-12 6.00 NHL
12-13 11.50 NHL
13-14 11.50 NHL…

Smile everyone. The world is still spinning, the sun is still shining, and double rainbows are everywhere.

It’s not so much that the Kings didn’t sign Kovalchuk, its what happened afterwards.

Minutes after the announced Kovalchuk deal, Simon Gagne was traded… to Tampa Bay.

Everyone knew the two deals were connected, it was just whether the Kings would or would not grab Kovalchuk….

So the suspense has ended and the twittersphere now decides who was the first to pounce and reveal the ‘decision’ by the coveted Kovalchuk. For most fans though Ilya Kovalchuk was an impediment to the daily business of 28 other teams or so the media, mainstream and bloggers alike have assumed and presented. The truth is now upon us and we shall find out just how serious LA is about Gagne. Right…

PuckAgency is proud to announce that All-Star left wing Ilya Kovalchuk has come to terms to re-sign with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League. Can it be? Devils twitter and Tom Gulitti of the Fire and Ice Blog reporting Kovalchuk signed and sealed!

As per Uncle Lou’s custom there are no #s but there is a Press Conference at The Rock on Tuesday.

As Sam Woo said, “This is Uncle Lou’s time to shine” and he did so far.

The Devils are going for it.

Lamoriello and the Devils lock up on of the game’s premier snipers in Kovalchuk….

Per the Devils Website:
“Since the free agent signing period began on July 1, almost every day brought new speculation on where the two-time 50-goal scorer might be headed. One of the most coveted unrestricteds in history, Kovalchuk finally ended the suspense Monday, following the Devils’ announcement that he’s staying in the Garden State. A 1 p.m. press conference will be held Tuesday at Pru…

Sorry for the lack of blogs today folks. Dealing with a nasty stomach virus that has hit 3/4th of the Eklund household…

But here is a quick Kovalchuk Update:

Just spoke to a source and here is where we are…

The sides are very close, and as expected, aren’t in any rush to make this happen on a Friday night.

The Kings have put forth a very healthy offer, somewhere in the $80-87M ran…

Update: Modano close to inking a deal with the Red Wings…

On Kovalchuk

My sources, and one particularly close source on the Kovy side, are telling me that today could very well be the day he becomes a King (and we can all get on with our lives).

I am curious if the deal would be “announced” today however. As you all know, the Friday rule is now in effect. Teams generally don’t relea…

An e4 will get some blackberry’s buzzing.

Here’s the latest I’ve been told:

- Jay Grossman stayed in town
- Cap guru Jeff Solomon was trying to hammer out some sort of “creative” deal
- the met until late in the evening

I was told yesterday it was “dead”. I believed it was “dead”. I tweeted it was “dead” and Dean was turning to “Plan B” – Will some sort of deal get done? Only the peop…
