Sure, the San Jose Sharks have their work cut out for them after falling at home in game one of the Western Conference Final and, yes, Philadelphiaâs lead over Montreal is just one game despite the lopsided victory in the East opener.
But isnât there something at least moderately intriguing for Tampa Bay Lightning fans about the possibility of a Dan Boyle/Matt Carle showdown in the Stanley…
I know that you folks want some Rangers-related news but this is the best I could do. It involves Sean Avery and Aaron Voros. More from The New York Post:
Lindsay Lohan started another fight in a club—this time with New York Ranger skaters Aaron Voros and Sean Avery at 1Oak. The troubled starlet threw a drink over Voros’ model girlfriend, Jessica Stam, and then tried to get all three thrown out of the Wildfox fall-collection party the other night. A spy relates, “Lindsay threw a fit because she wanted to be at their table near the DJ. But she claimed she didn’t want to sit with Aaron and said, ‘He’s my ex-boyfriend. I don’t want him anywhere near me.’ Voros denied knowing her. A drink then flew in Jessica’s face, and Lindsay demanded their table be moved out. Club bosses refused and tried to calm her down. Stam, Voros and Avery were shocked but didn’t retaliate, and Lindsay left shortly afterward.”
Nice, right?

As Team Canada makes its way through the qualification round at the World Championships and the injury bug begins to plague the team, Vancouver Canucks forward Mason Raymond and Edmonton Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk have both been added to Team Canada’s roster….
Suffice it to say, the rest did me well.
I stayed away exactly a month, which was the minimum Iâd promised myself. The itch was there to return early on a few different occasions but I resisted â made myself hold back â and I feel recharged and ready to tackle another active off-season for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
But first, some shameless self-promotion â¦

Itâs transition time when discussing the St. Louis Blues. Doug Armstrong is in the process of replacing Larry Pleau as GM and it appears the transformation of power in the Blues front office is just about completed.
Based on the comments made by President John Davidson after the season, fans shouldnât anticipate a whole lot of activity come July 1st. At least not with high priced free age…

Today’s Draft Day Scenario is a very interesting one. Two teams who are in need of a change of dynamics. Two teams who have a history of dealing with each other. Two teams promising their fanbases a new l…
From great friend of the blog Nicholas Montemagno at The Rangers Tribune:
In 27 games played with the Devils this season, Kovalchuk had just ten goals, in addition to the two he netted in five games played against the Flyers in the quarterfinals. Those are not horrible numbers, obviously, but they are not what we have seen in previous years of his career and they are the only reason why he does not have an atrocious plus/minus rating. His performance in the playoffs this season was below-par, and I think that was the assuring fact that he will not be back with the Devils next season.
This may sound harsh, but Kovalchuk does not give a rat’s tail about the defensive end of the rink. He does not make an effort to backcheck, he does not make an effort to help around by the net, and he is not an option to put on the penalty kill. His only ability is scoring, which he can do quite well, but only when he chooses that he wants to.
People have recently been asking why Kovalchuk did not fit in New Jersey. Well, the Devils, sine their birth, have always been a defense-first team. Kovalchuk does not know how to play a system like that, in fact, he doesn’t know how to play much of any system at all. He is a floater that waits for the puck, and when he gets it, he chooses if he wants to do something with it or not.

Who Am I? #4
Here we go with another kick at the âWho Am I?â can! I have to say that Hockeybuzz has some pretty knowledgeable hockey fans as evidenced by how many people are able to figure these out pretty quickly! Rather than scale back to 5 clues Iâm going to go the route of making the clues trickier to figure out and welcome you posting not only your guess as to the person Iâm refe…

The 2010 NFL Draft has come on gone with 7 rounds of hope and promise for both the teams selecting and the players selected. None of that will be different for the NHL Draft that will happen June 25th in Los Angeles.
The question is how can people tell what player their favorite NHL team will select by what NFL teams selected. Did you hear what coaches and general managers of NFL teams sai…
Today will be the nomination announcements for the 2010 Calder Trophy. If the early playoff results are any indication, perhaps the best player to debut in the 2009/10 season will not be nominated this year. So far in the playoffs, John Carlson of the Washington Capitals has made a claim to being the best rookie in the NHL. Carlson has appeared in all four Washington Capitals games and scored four points from defence. He has a +7 +/- rating in the playoffs so far. This is quite an impressive showing for a rookie.
Carlson will be eligible for the Calder Trophy next season because he only played 22 games this season (and the Calder cut-off is 25). In those 22 games, he logged an ever increasing amount of playing time with six points and a +11 +/-. Carlson is a 20 year old World Junior Championship hero who was a Caps first round pick in 2008. He has the pedigree of a future NHL star and is playing like one so far in the playoffs. He is a very logical front-runner for next year’s Calder Trophy.
Welcome, everyone, to the second annual JJ Awards, named ever-so-modestly after yours truly (who also serves as the âmodelâ for the âhardwareâ itself). These awards showcase both the positive and the negative of the 2009-10 Tampa Bay Lightning season (though, for those of a depressing nature, no âpresentationâ is actually made).
Before we begin, a little clarity so weâre all on t…
The JJ Awards are about half way done and on the way later today.
In the interim, though I said I would never do this again, my flawed playoff predictions:
East Quarters
(1) Washington over (8) Montreal in five
(7) Philadelphia over (2) New Jersey in seven
(3) Buffalo over (6) Boston in six
(4) Pittsburgh over (5) Ottawa in five
West Quarters
(8) Colorado over (1) San Jose in six

Neither general manager Brian Lawton nor head coach Rick Tocchet will return to the Tampa Bay Lightning next season, as owner Jeff Vinik announced this morning, paving the way for the fresh start that the organization appears to desperately need after two-plus seasons of turmoil on and off the ice.
Lawtonâs ousting came as no surprise, if for no other reason than that an incoming owner severi…
