The hot topic right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Steven Stamkos, thanks to the hot hand that has him on pace for a 51-goal sophomore season.

The impact of Steve Downie as a well-rounded force, offensively, physically and otherwise, might be the surprise story of their season.

And a reinvigorated Vincent Lecavalier down the stretch, sparked by the under-the-radar arrival of Teddy…

Sorry I haven’t been posting since the trade deadline, but let’s face it: The Oilers season effectively ended on March 3, and there’s really not much to talk about now until the NHL Draft. I suppose I will do what I always do, which is, to speak philosophically and hypothetically about where the Oilers are headed next season.

Let’s start with the trades at the deadline: Trading Denis Grebeshkov…

OK, it is time for this Devils team to get it together. I am not complaining, I am demanding! Devils fans have gotten much demanding over the last few years and last year’s playoff exit still leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
The point is – This team is better than that!

A win against the elite Sharks then a reality check against a hard working Oilers. Both ends of the spectrum for this Dev…

So, the Jeff Vinik era as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to an 0-1 start with Thursday’s loss to Washington.

So what?

The Caps are, well, the Caps. And, though there was certainly some sloppiness, the Lightning hung tight in that game, battling back from several deficits and showing some real character throughout.

A timely save or two down the stretch would have aided the cau…

18 teams were in action on Thursday night in the National Hockey League. Home teams finished with a sparkling 7-1-1 record, with the Stars suffering the only loss in regulation among the nine hosts.

All is quiet for the Oilers so far this morning. Articles in the Edmonton Journal and discussion on TSN indicate the players most likely to be on the move today are Ethan Moreau, Fernando Pisani, Steve Staios and Sheldon Souray. While there have been no moves as of yet, players listed above have been linked to the following teams:

Ethan Moreau to the LA Kings for a defensive prospect.

It would appear that Denis Grebeshkov has no qualms with scoring on ex-teammates. Tonight, the freshly acquired defenseman put on a great 1st period show and helped start a Preds 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers. 15,682 were in attendance tonight for the first game in the newly named Bridgestone Arena.

Join me at your leisure on deadline day here.

I’ll be in and out throughout the day, passing along whatever word I get on any potential or actual Lightning moves and my usual snide commentary on whatever else is going on tomorrow.

We’ll have plenty to discuss, I’m sure.

Stay tuned.

In a deal certain to turn around their playoff chances, the Edmonton Oilers traded defenseman Cody Wild to Boston Bruins for forward Matt Marquardt. This season in Providence, the 22 year-old Marquardt scored 1 goal, 9 assists, and 3 cheerleaders. All I can say is, I hope this guy is a fighter.

In other Oilers news, the Oil play the Nashville Predators at 6:00pm. Fans should be sure to tune int…

With the Oilers playing this evening, it is likely that most of their deadline deals will take place on Wednesday. Meaning, I’ve got some time to kill. Not to worry: I present to you 10 Deadline Deals I’d Like to See. If I was running the NHL universe, this is how the trade deadline would go down.

Trade #1 – Andrew Cogliano, Linus Omark, Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle for Zdeno Chara, Derek B…

It’s Game Night in Nashville as the Predators begin the 21 game rush to the playoffs with a tilt against the Edmonton Oilers as the rechristened Bridgestone Arena. It is the first game of 17 in March for the Preds with 10 of them at home and a chance to solidify their playoff spot in the friendly confines.

The Predators began the post-Olympic push by jumping into the trade pool, closing a dea…

When I am not watching hockey on TSN or Sportsnet, I listen to a fair amount of sports talk radio. In particular, I try to catch Jason Gregor’s show on Team 1260, or Dan Tencer on 630 CHED. In respect to television personalities, I truly enjoy Bob McKenzie because he is brilliant and seems to know everything hockey, and Pierre McGuire because he has BIG opinions that entertain me. I worked in radi…

There was talk that Souray to the New York Rangers was to happen this evening, but an official deal has yet to materialize.

I notice alot of complaining about my suggestion that Wayne Simmonds could be dealt to Edmonton for Ethan Moreau+. The Oilers have been after Simmonds all season, and the Kings do want to add Moreau. I do sort of wonder why the Kings would be interested in Moreau, or anyon…

Denis Grebeshkov to the Nashville Predators for a second round draft pick…

So what does it mean? Early consensus is, the Oilers did not get enough return for him. I don’t feel that way – A 2nd rounder for a $3mil+ per season defensive headache? I like the deal very much. Obviously the Oilers are looking at a complete rebuild.

So who’s next, and for what. Here’s some rumors:

- Sheldon So…

The Edmonton Oilers have traded Denis Grebeshkov to the Nashville Predators for a second round draft pick. Did the Oilers get enough of a return for Denis? And will this draft pick be moved as part of a different deal to bring in a “big” name?

Updated 5:25pm ET…

I was asked about the “big” deal the Oilers are rumored to have in the works. The trade of Grebeshkov f…

Before I open up the mailbag for the first time in a long time, I’ll answer a question that I’ve received from a handful of people in the last couple of days:

“Where did BoltsBuzz Radio go so quickly?”

The answer is simple. Nowhere. We scheduled to take Monday the 22nd off, figuring most listeners would be in Olympic mode, most potential guests scattered about and hard to reach and,…

The Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament began as one of the most highly-hyped hockey affairs in the sport’s long, rich history. There were disappointments (Russia, Sweden) and surprises (United States, Slovakia), stellar goaltending (Ryan Miller, Roberto Luongo) and magnificent offensive performances (Pavol Demitra, Zach Parise). But, above all else, there was a storybook ending that every hockey fan will…
