The hot topic right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Steven Stamkos, thanks to the hot hand that has him on pace for a 51-goal sophomore season.

The impact of Steve Downie as a well-rounded force, offensively, physically and otherwise, might be the surprise story of their season.

And a reinvigorated Vincent Lecavalier down the stretch, sparked by the under-the-radar arrival of Teddy…

The million dollar question among fans and media alike is whether or not the Blues can find a way to slide into the playoffs. It won’t be long before we find out.

It’s pretty hard to pick apart the way the Blues have been playing as of late. Winners of five of their last six games the Blues have once again asserted themselves into becoming part of the playoff picture.

When talking to B…

The last two seasons have ended with a frantic playoff push, only to come up short by slim margins, perpetuating an absurd and unacceptable playoff drought. The Panther’s swan dive before and after the Olympic break, losing seven straight, has now put them in an all-to-familiar position of relying on luck and perfect play to squeak into the eighth playoff spot in the East.

The prediction was t…

So, the Jeff Vinik era as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to an 0-1 start with Thursday’s loss to Washington.

So what?

The Caps are, well, the Caps. And, though there was certainly some sloppiness, the Lightning hung tight in that game, battling back from several deficits and showing some real character throughout.

A timely save or two down the stretch would have aided the cau…

18 teams were in action on Thursday night in the National Hockey League. Home teams finished with a sparkling 7-1-1 record, with the Stars suffering the only loss in regulation among the nine hosts.

I think some fans are slightly shocked that the St. Louis Blues have so quickly moved on from a player who was so highly regarded just a few short months ago.

When you think about Aaron Palushaj, a former 2nd round pick out of Michigan, you think about a player the organization had categorized as a big part of the future moving forward.

I’ll never forget members of the management staff r…

Preview (7:45 AM)

Fresh off a huge third period performance in last night’s 7-2 win in Tampa Bay, the Flyers will complete their Florida swing tonight with a tilt against the Panthers. This is the fourth and final meetings between the teams. The Panthers have won two of the first three games.

The Panthers were idle last night. The club lost its first game after Olympic break, dropping a 4-2…

Hop in and out all day for trade deadline discussion, general puck chat, questions, comments and, with any luck, some breaking news from JJ …

We can even talk about last night’s 7-2 thumping the Lightning received from Philly, if we must. (Hey, at least we got another double dose of “Hammer Time”!

Caveat Emptor: part or nothing of what you read here will come to pass by 3PM Eastern today.

That is to say, as I’ve said in the past, hockey trade rumor reporting is at best an inexact science. You can identify in very broad terms what a team is trying to do, but the specifics are almost always surprising.

That said, in spite of a tweet by Kevin Allen of USA Today to the contrary last night…

I received a call back from my source, connection, phantom friend, or whatever it is I have with the Moose. There are two players who have been told they are a good chance to go tomorrow. I believe it’s Florida but contingent on Vokoun moving. Guess that means one is Schneider right?

If Vokoun is moved and Florida is clearing house, changing the guard, rebuilding or doing whatever it is the…

To no surprise Toronto forward Alexei Ponikarovsky has been told he will be moved. Sources close to the Maple Leaf tell me it’s down to 2 or three teams and the deal is likely to do down sometime in the morning. There are a few deals on the table and word is Brian Burke is in the process of deciding which way he wants to go. One team is believed to be the Los Angeles Kings.

Speaking of Toro…

Join me at your leisure on deadline day here.

I’ll be in and out throughout the day, passing along whatever word I get on any potential or actual Lightning moves and my usual snide commentary on whatever else is going on tomorrow.

We’ll have plenty to discuss, I’m sure.

Stay tuned.

Florida media is reporting Florida GM Randy Sexton has talked to Tomas Vokoun about the possibility of a trade and Vokoun is open to waiving his no-trade clause.

It clearly sounds as though Vokoun will do so for the right situation.

A source I spoke with a week ago told me then that a deal with Florida and the Hawks was alive and heating up, though it had been recently dead at that point. Th…

Good Afternoon…..

Colorado is shopping Marek Svatos who has pretty much been relegated to fourth line duties in recent games. Not sure he has much value but there could be a team out there who believes he can still score.

There is some chatter that Washington could move Tomas Fleishman but there’s nothing to it. He’s not going anywhere.

A few teams are kicking tires curious to know wh…

Good morning.

Word around the NHL is that there are currently 10 teams who consider themselves buyers, five who consider themselves sellers, while the rest of the teams are still trying to determine what they want to do.

Most Gm’s (if they were doing their job) did most of their work prior to the Olympics and spent most of Monday following up with the teams they feel they can get a deal…

Before I open up the mailbag for the first time in a long time, I’ll answer a question that I’ve received from a handful of people in the last couple of days:

“Where did BoltsBuzz Radio go so quickly?”

The answer is simple. Nowhere. We scheduled to take Monday the 22nd off, figuring most listeners would be in Olympic mode, most potential guests scattered about and hard to reach and,…

The Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament began as one of the most highly-hyped hockey affairs in the sport’s long, rich history. There were disappointments (Russia, Sweden) and surprises (United States, Slovakia), stellar goaltending (Ryan Miller, Roberto Luongo) and magnificent offensive performances (Pavol Demitra, Zach Parise). But, above all else, there was a storybook ending that every hockey fan will…
