After a grueling, seven-game road trip over the span of just 11 days, the Boston Bruins are heading home on a positive note. The B’s, propelled by a 30-save effort from netminder Tuukka Rask and three third-period goals, defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 on Tuesday night. Evgeni Malkin missed Tuesday’s practice after taking a shot to the foot during the Penguins’ 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday. Head coach Dan Bylsma said that Malkin is day-to-day. It is unclear if he will play Wednesday in New Jersey.

Tom Mast: Malkin Injured

Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin was injured during the Penguins’ 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday evening.

Malkin took a shot off the foot fired by teammate Kris Letang at the end of the second period. Malkin did not emerge from the locker room for the third and remained out the rest of the game.

This shot to the skate appears to be the source of Malkin’s injury.

Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin was injured during the Penguins’ 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday evening.

Update

The Penguins are now listing Malkin as day-to-day. An x-ray showed no broken bones.

The team has an off day Monday, but will be back to practice Tuesday. Look for updates on Malkin, Crosby and why the Penguins can’t seem to beat New Jersey.
