It was looked on as a very important game. A chance to take the eighth and final play-off spot back (for the time being) against a team that most feel will still make the post-season in the Detroit Red Wings. Now that they’re healthy the Wings have become a formidable team, and they are still looked at as a team that could do some post-season damage.
As for the Flames, they had a chance to catc…
Who is Your Cup Favorite?
With approximately 15 games remaining in the NHL’s regular season, there doesn’t seem to be a better time than right now to find out who YOU think has the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup?
Here is a set of 3 polls, based on the 3 brackets of current contenders(based on current point standings and pre-season odds):

The hot topic right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Steven Stamkos, thanks to the hot hand that has him on pace for a 51-goal sophomore season.
The impact of Steve Downie as a well-rounded force, offensively, physically and otherwise, might be the surprise story of their season.
And a reinvigorated Vincent Lecavalier down the stretch, sparked by the under-the-radar arrival of Teddy…
The million dollar question among fans and media alike is whether or not the Blues can find a way to slide into the playoffs. It wonât be long before we find out.
Itâs pretty hard to pick apart the way the Blues have been playing as of late. Winners of five of their last six games the Blues have once again asserted themselves into becoming part of the playoff picture.
When talking to B…
“They’re still the team to beat in the West, I don’t care what anyone says. They have the lineup to do it. They’ve dealt with a lot of injuries and managed to stay in the playoff hunt. It was a test for us and we didn’t meet that.”
-Blackhawks winger Andrew Ladd following Detroit’s 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Every great team seems to have a rival they have to overcome in order to re…
***1:30 PM ET UPDATE FROM MONDAY’S WINGS PRACTICE COURTESY OF DETROIT FREE PRESS BEATWRITER, HELENE ST. JAMES***
Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi did not practice today, but Mike Babcock said Bertuzzi will be ready to play Tuesday when the Wings host Calgary.
Bertuzzi suffered a charley horse to the inside of his left knee when he was sandwiched on a hit by Ben Eager and Jordan Hendry late in…
The Blackhawks lost a hard fought, somewhat sloppy contest to the Red Wings this afternoon, 5-4, before yet another packed house at the UC.
I’m going to avoid the easy (and inaccurate) out of blaming the officials. In fairness, I’ve been consistent in my criticism of NHL officiating for years now, no matter the outcome or who’s playing. This officiating team, like so many, missed callsâin one…
So, the Jeff Vinik era as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to an 0-1 start with Thursdayâs loss to Washington.
So what?
The Caps are, well, the Caps. And, though there was certainly some sloppiness, the Lightning hung tight in that game, battling back from several deficits and showing some real character throughout.
A timely save or two down the stretch would have aided the cau…
I debated how to title this blog: “A Minor Statement,” or “An Early Statement,” and upon reflection, I went with the more simple, emphatic title you see above.
Last night’s game was a statement for the Blackhawks. Not so much because of the score, or even really the opponent, but rather: this is how we’re going to win in the playoffs.
Conversely, if I were a Canucks fan, I’d be concerned thi…
18 teams were in action on Thursday night in the National Hockey League. Home teams finished with a sparkling 7-1-1 record, with the Stars suffering the only loss in regulation among the nine hosts.

I think some fans are slightly shocked that the St. Louis Blues have so quickly moved on from a player who was so highly regarded just a few short months ago.
When you think about Aaron Palushaj, a former 2nd round pick out of Michigan, you think about a player the organization had categorized as a big part of the future moving forward.
Iâll never forget members of the management staff r…

To no surprise Toronto forward Alexei Ponikarovsky has been told he will be moved. Sources close to the Maple Leaf tell me it’s down to 2 or three teams and the deal is likely to do down sometime in the morning. There are a few deals on the table and word is Brian Burke is in the process of deciding which way he wants to go. One team is believed to be the Los Angeles Kings.

Join me at your leisure on deadline day here.
I’ll be in and out throughout the day, passing along whatever word I get on any potential or actual Lightning moves and my usual snide commentary on whatever else is going on tomorrow.
We’ll have plenty to discuss, I’m sure.
Stay tuned.

Good Afternoon…..
Colorado is shopping Marek Svatos who has pretty much been relegated to fourth line duties in recent games. Not sure he has much value but there could be a team out there who believes he can still score.
There is some chatter that Washington could move Tomas Fleishman but there’s nothing to it. He’s not going anywhere.
A few teams are kicking tires curious to know wh…
Good morning.
Word around the NHL is that there are currently 10 teams who consider themselves buyers, five who consider themselves sellers, while the rest of the teams are still trying to determine what they want to do.
Most Gmâs (if they were doing their job) did most of their work prior to the Olympics and spent most of Monday following up with the teams they feel they can get a deal…

As the trade deadline quickly approaches, anticipation of possible trades heat up and rumors swirl on every internet site that even remotely covers hockey. Now the question is will the trade deadline live up to the hype like the Winter Olympics did? I doubt it as the big boys have already been traded and there are few big names that will be changing addresses.
Since I cover the Blue Jacket…
